While the Doi family traces its roots back to this era, Doi Brewing Company itself was founded in 1872. Their other brand, Kaiun, means “to attract good fortune.” Luckily for them, the area gets so much sunshine year-round that the brewery is able to operate mostly by solar power. Shizuoka also has the most wasabi farms in Japan, and is famous for tea.
