Most of Hokkaido prefecture’s agricultural areas are located in the west, where the soil is rich and well fed from the snow runoff in spring. Similarly, Hokkaido’s breweries also tend to cluster in the west. Ginpu is very popular, being the eighth most cultivated rice in Japan.
