The three sake
Three bottles, one journey across the chart
Every sake has a place on the taste chart. We chose three from different corners of it, so one evening shows you the range — and where your taste lives.
Sweet & Juicy
Miyakanbai - Junmai Ginjo
Category: Junmai Ginjo
Prefecture: Miyagi
Tasting notes:
Pear
Melon
Aromatic
Pineapple
Full description
Sweet and voluptuous yet never overbearing, this junmai ginjo goes down effortlessly. Its inviting aroma is best experienced with a wine glass. Start by serving it chilled, and observe how the notes of pear and melon expand as the temperature rises. This mellow yet expressive sake is the perfect accompaniment to traditional Japanese cuisine such as kaiseki and Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, which honor the natural flavors of their ingredients.
Smooth & Dry
Koshi no Hakugan - Kuromatsu
Category: Futsushu
Prefecture: Niigata
Tasting notes:
Food Friendly
Multi Temp
Grain
Gentle
Full description
Nakagawa Brewing Company’s flagship “futsushu” (table sake) is a local Niigata favorite. “Kuromatsu” is a name they retained before the current sake classification system. Like its name, this sake is classic. Dry and versatile, drink it at various temperatures and it will elevate any meal. It has a 60% RPR — above the call of duty for a futsushu — but that’s how much they care about taste!
Cloudy
Kawanakajima - Junmai - Nigori
Category: Junmai (Nigori)
Prefecture: Nagano
Tasting notes:
Rice Pudding
Crisp
Full description
Made by one of the oldest breweries in Japan, this classic nigori has a crisp edge. The mash is carefully strained to give it a smooth, mellow mouthfeel. At the same time, it’s rich and full bodied, packing enough punch to stand up to meat dishes. Its dry finish can also cut through oily dishes; it would go especially well with something deep-fried and substantial.

FAQ
Before you order
Will I like it if I’ve only had restaurant sake?
+
Restaurant sake in the U.S. is often not Japan's best. The Original lets you taste three real styles at home, with a guide to find what you enjoy.
Can I enjoy it solo? How many people?
+
Solo or with 2–3 people. Three cups and a mat make side-by-side comparison easy; add your own glasses for more guests.
Is $89 worth it?
+
The same pours would cost ~$135 at a restaurant — see the breakdown above. Cups, mat, cards and shipping are all included.
How should I serve it?
+
Chilled, like white wine — the flip cards show each bottle’s best temperature and pairings.
When will it ship and arrive?
+
Ships within 2 business days from California — 2–3 days West Coast, 5–7 days nationwide.
What makes this different from other sake gifts?
+
Each bottle is selected by professionals from 500+ brews, direct from Japan — plus a guided tasting, not just bottles in a box.
